Bird Photographs
- Oregon, 2004: The following photos were taken during a springtime trip to Central Oregon in 2004. We stayed at the Black Butte Resort at Sherman Camp near Sisters Oregon from April 16 to May 3. This was the highlight of the trip. Sherman Camp and Sisters are nestled in a group of 11 major volcanoes to the west. The scenery is spectacular. A short distance from Sherman Camp, the Metolius River gushes full blown out of the side of a nearby extinct volcano, the Black Butte. The Metolius is a famous trout fishing river. Huge Ponderosa Pine and Western Larch blanket the hillsides. Nearby Sisters marks the border of the Juniper/Sage high desert to the east. It’s a major quilting destination and Jean enjoyed herself immensely.
- Sooke, Winter 2004: These photos were taken between January 2 and March 3, 2004. All photos were taken in the vicinity of Sooke except for the Sandhill Crane which was taken at the Reifel Wildlife Refuge, Ladner British Columbia February 17, 2004.
Birds: Mallard, House Finch, Purple Finch, Fox Sparrow, Mute Swan, Ring-necked Duck, Harlequin, Sandhill Crane, Surf Scooter, Glaucous-winged Gull, Fox Sparrow.
- Arizona 2003:Jean and I traveled south in our camper on early 2003 (January 20 to March 23 2003). While in Arizona we visited some very famous birding spots – the Madera Canyon east of Green Valley AZ, Patagonia Lake State Park, Patagonia/Sonoita Wildlife Preserve, and Organ Pipe National Monument.
Birds: Arizona woodpecker, curve-billed thrasher, elegant trogon, gilded flicker, gila woodpecker, gray-breasted jay, mourning dove, vermillion flycatcher, verdin, white-breasted nuthatch
- California 2003: Description
Birds: Anna's hummingbird, burrowing owl, great horned owl, tree swallow, ladder-backed woodpecker, white-winged dove.
- Chilcotin 2003: Description
Birds: brown-headed cowbird, common loon, mountain bluebird, tree swallow, white pelican.
- Sooke Spring/Summer 2002-2003: A variety of early digiscope photographs taken at and near home in Sooke.
Birds: harlequin duck, short-billed dowitcher, rufous hummingbird, violet-green swallow, semipalmated plover, black-legged kittiwake, California gull, glaucous-winged gull, American goldfinch, Pacific-slope flycatcher, American robin, great-horned owl.
- Sooke Fall 2000-2003: A variety of early digiscope photographs taken at and near home in Sooke.
